Modified Atmosphere Packaging

Modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) has been used since the 19th century as a means of preservation in the food industry.
Unicorn Ingredients has invested in MAP machinery that is able to apply this technology to commodities in bulk packaging (i.e. paper sacks, polypropylene tote bags etc.). This technology modifies the internal atmosphere in our packaged products by reducing the oxygen content and replacing it with nitrogen.
The key benefits of this are:
- the machinery allows our products to be stored using this technology without compromising the integrity of the sealed bags. This means our products which have been packaged at GFSI certified production sites, can be treated by this MAP system at any location, without opening the bags and introducing any contamination risks to the packed goods.
- The liner is 100% airtight, meaning that for as long as the goods remain in the liner, they are protected against:
- Moisture
- Oxidation
- Insect infestation
By protecting our goods from these influences, the quality of the product is preserved.
- Particularly useful for storing organic products that are likely to remain in storage for an extended period. As there are no additives or chemicals applied, this process is suitable for organic products without impacting their organic status. The treatment is an organic and environmentally friendly method of killing infestation within the product.
Unicorn Ingredients are able to offer this treatment as a service for packed bulk commodities, either to treat a confirmed infestation, or to protect against future infestation and preserve quality. Please contact your account manager or our UK sales team for more information.
